Precarious Perforation
You are in the practice of endodontics after completing a prestigious graduate course. A dentist calls you to describe a patient he is about to refer to you. He says that she is an elderly lady who has limited funds. "To save her some money, " he decided to "try" to do the endodontic procedure on tooth #15 himself. He says he realized at some point that it was going to be more difficult than expected. That is why he is referring. When you see the patient, you find an obvious perforation that may jeopardize the outcome of treatment.
What do you say to the patient? What do you say to the dentist?
